Open Letter

To: The International Criminal Court (ICC)

We, the undersigned, call upon the International Criminal Court to immediately launch a comprehensive investigation into the deliberate targeting, injury, and killing of journalists during the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.

Since the escalation of violence in October 2023, the Israel-Gaza conflict has become the deadliest period for journalists in modern history, with at least 146 journalists killed as of December 2024. Among the victims, 138 were Palestinian, 2 Israeli, and 6 Lebanese. Many were clearly identified as members of the press, wearing “PRESS” vests and working in marked vehicles when they were targeted.

Journalists are protected as civilians under international law, and attacks on them constitute war crimes under the Rome Statute. Despite repeated calls for justice, there has been no accountability for attacks on journalists. IDF have yet to provide transparent investigations into these incidents.

The ICC has previously declared its commitment to investigating war crimes, including those involving deliberate attacks on civilians. We urge the ICC to:

  1. 1- Initiate a Full Investigation and examine the deliberate targeting of journalists as war crimes.
  2. 2- Hold Perpetrators Accountable and bring those responsible for these heinous acts to justice, regardless of rank or affiliation.

We demand justice for the lives lost and the countless others impacted by this crisis.
